LiSHA Pongal 2024 – Events Highlights

Little India Shop Owners and Heritage Association, also known as ‘Lisha,’ is gearing up for a series of events in Little India to celebrate Pongal. Each year, the Pongal festivities in Little India come to life with the annual light-up ceremony. The streets are adorned with uniquely and intricately designed artworks that grace the tops of our street poles, featuring the most elaborate themes and vibrant colors.

The centerpiece of the decoration will be the “KUDAM,” symbolizing the pot, serving as an ornate monumental entrance that warmly welcomes the joyous celebration of Pongal into the heart of Little India. Peacock images will grace every pole throughout the entire light-up, while at the pinnacle, there will be an image of a cow surrounded by pots, symbolizing the spirit of Pongal.

Scheduled from January 6th to February 6th, 2024, this year’s Pongal light-up promises to captivate the community with its immersive and visually stunning display, creating a festive atmosphere in Little India.

Cattle Arrival

Vicknesh Dairy Farm will continue the annual tradition of displaying cattle for public view. This year, the arrival of the animals will be celebrated by the public on January 5th at approximately 5 PM near Hastings Road. The cattle will participate in a short parade along Campbell Lane before reaching their temporary home at Poli@Clive Street in Little India. Accompanied by traditional Indian percussion music and dances like Parai, Thavil, Karagam, and Kattai Kai, the parade will be ensured to be safe by LISHA, with blocked roads and security officers present.

A spectacular streetlight display will illuminate Serangoon Road, spanning from Bukit Timah Junction to off Perumal Temple, for one month, starting from January 6th to February 6th, 2024 (31 days). The lights will be aglow daily from 7 PM to 12 AM. LISHA plans to extend a special invitation to Minister Ms. Grace Fu to be the Guest of Honour and inaugurate the streetlight celebration.A spectacular streetlight display will illuminate Serangoon Road, spanning from Bukit Timah Junction to off Perumal Temple, for one month, starting from January 6th to February 6th, 2024 (31 days).
